The critical role of solvation forces in dispersing and stabilizing nanoparticles and colloids in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [C4mim][BF4] is demonstrated. Stable silica nanoparticle suspensions over 60 wt % solids are achieved by particle surface chemical functionalization with a fluorinated alcohol. A combination of techniques i...

A review of the fabrication of polysaccharide ion gels with ionic liquids is presented. From various polysaccharides, the corresponding ion gels were fabricated through the dissolution with ionic liquids. As ionic liquids, in the most cases, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride has been used, whereas 1-allyl-3methylimidazolium acetate was specifica...

In this study, we report on the electroplating and stripping of lithium in two ionic liquid (IL) based electrolytes, namely N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(fluorosulfonyl) imide (Pyr14FSI) and N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (Pyr14TFSI), and mixtures thereof, both on nickel and lithium electrodes. An improved meth...

Antibodies obtained from egg yolk of immunized hens, immunoglobulin Y (IgY), are an alternative to the most focused mammal antibodies, because they can be obtained in higher titers by less invasive approaches. However, the production cost of high-quality IgY for large-scale applications remains higher than that of other drug therapies due to the la...

One of the major impediments to using electroorganic synthesis is the need for large amounts of a supporting electrolyte to ensure the passage of charge. Frequently this causes separation and waste problems. To address these issues, a polymeric ionic liquid-Super P carbon black composite has been formulated. The system enables electrolyses to be pe...

In the present work, the solid–liquid–liquid equilibrium in the binary system of diethylamine (1) and ionic liquid (2) 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and solid–liquid equilibrium in system 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide was studied. Phase equilibrium was determined experimentally by mean...

The special electric properties of the poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is strongly dependent on its crystalline structural morphology. In this study, modification in the crystal structure of PVDF was achieved by utilizing the long alkyl chain ionic liquid (1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, [C16mim][Br]) and ionic liquid modified multiwalled...

The reversible micellization and sol-gel transition of block copolymer solutions in an ionic liquid (IL) triggered by a photostimulus is described. The ABA triblock copolymer employed, denoted P(AzoMA-r-NIPAm)-b-PEO-b-P(AzoMA-r-NIPAm)), has a B block composed of an IL-soluble poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The A block consists of a random copolymer in...

We present a simple and an efficient approach using spatially selective NMR to investigate solvation and diffusion of CO2 in ionic liquids. The techniques demonstrated here are shown as novel and effective means of studying solvated gas dynamics under non-equilibrium conditions without the need for conventional high power gradients.
