The chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus (Say), is one of the most injurious insect pests of cereal crops in the United States. Although some damage by it has occurred over a wide area in the United States, the greatest injury has been in the Corn Belt. The years in which the chinch bug appears in destructive abundance come irregularly in cycles of vary...

Absolute values have been obtained for the isotopic abundance ratios of common, equal-atom, and radiogenic lead isotopic standards using solid-sample mass spectrometry. Samples of known 208Pb/206Pb ratio, prepared from nearly pure separated 206Pb and 208Pb solutions, were used to calibrate the mass spectrometers.

Sigmodon inopinatus is endemic to the Western Andes of Ecuador and one of the rarest and least known species of rodents in this country. Its presence has been previously documented in two areas and three locations in the provinces of Chimborazo and Azuay. Few cases of infection with Paramphistomum spp. have been reported from cattle in Canada. During the course of a recent study of bovine fascioliasis both P. microbothrioides and P. liorchis were found in the rumen of dairy cattle slaughtered in a Quebec abattoir. Eggs in feces were distinguished on the basis of their size. Coprological analysis of ...

In the Republic of Belau (western Caroline Islands), the nonsymbiotic stony coral Tubastraea micrantha (Ehrenberg) occurs commonly on open reef habitats that are dominated by symbiotic corals. This observation calls into question the often-held view that nonsymbiotic corals are restricted to cryptic environments because of their inability to compet...

CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) observations of pedestal emission from small regions in three of the high-latitude molecular clouds are discussed. High-sensitivity spectra show extended, low-level emission in addition to the typical narrow Gaussian emission from cold clumps. The pedestal profiles resemble the wings seen in CO and other molecules in low-luminos...

The outcome of a wild bee fauna survey in a secondary forest is reported. Sampling was carried out mainly on herbaceous and shrubby vegetation under and at the border of the forest. Results are compared with data collected with the same methodology from a previously surveyed grassland nearby. The secondary forest was richer in Anthophoridae and Api...
