We propose a model in which Apj controls a regulatory Cerberus-Baf60c pathway in pluripotent stem cell cardiomyogenesis, and speculate that this regulatory circuit may regulate cardiac progenitor cell behaviour.
The heart forms as a linear heart tube that loops and septates to produce a mature four-chambered structure. The single vessel emerging from the embryonic heart, the truncus arteriosus, divides into the aorta and the pulmonary artery as part of this septation process, and a series of additional morphogenetic events result in the proper alignment an...
Although de la Cruz and colleagues showed as early as 1977 that the outflow tract was added after the heart tube formed, the source of these secondarily added cells was not identified for nearly 25 years. In 2001, three pivotal publications described a secondary or anterior heart field that contributed to the developing outflow tract. This review d...

Congenital heart diseases (CHD) result from abnormal morphogenesis of the embryonic cardiovascular system and usually involve defects in specific structural components of the developing heart and vessels. Therefore, an understanding of “Molecular Embryology”, with specific focus on the individual modular steps involved in cardiovascular morphogenes...
