The objective of this study is to correlate the patient-driven tool Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 (RAPID-3) with other common tools used in daily practice to measure disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).One hundred nineteen RA patients according to 1987 American College of Rheumatology criteria who consecutively attended a RA ...

BackgroundComorbidities may contribute to disease activity and treatment response in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. We defined a somatization comorbidity phenotype (SCP) and examined its influence on response to certolizumab pegol (CZP) using data from the PREDICT trial.MethodsPatients in PREDICT were randomized to the patient-reported Routine...

The aim of our study was to examine why real-world practices and attitudes regarding quantitative measurements of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have received limited attention. An e-mail survey asked US rheumatologists to self-report on their use of quantitative measurements (metric). Among 439 respondents, metric rheumatologists (58%) were more likely...

We aimed to compare composite indices with Ultrasound Global Synovitis Score (GLOESS) for remission in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA patients in remission according to the clinician were investigated with Disease Activity Score28 (DAS28), Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI), Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI), and RAPID-3 (Routine Assessme...

This study demonstrates that CDSD correlated well with CDAI. CDSD score of 5 is the cut-off value for clinical remission (CDAI score ≤150). Use of CDSD might permit a simple, patient-friendly assessment of CD activity, which can provide useful early-phase information on patients with CD as part of their long-term clinical assessment.

Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.)
The primary goal in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) should be achieving control of disease activity, prevention of structural damage in joints, and normalization of function. Therefore, reliable tools are necessary to evaluate RA. Here, we describe methods recently used to assess RA.

The Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI), a scoring index including patient-reported outcomes (PROs), has known limitations for measuring intestinal inflammatory disease burden. Noninvasive markers of inflammation could prove more accurate than PROs; thus, regulatory authorities are exploring the use of PROs and endoscopic data as coprimary end po...

IntroductionExtraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) are common and associated with additional morbidity. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adalimumab therapy on EIM resolution and identify potential predictors of EIM resolution in adult and pediatric patients with moderate to severe CD.MethodsEIM data we...

Discontinuation of antitumour necrosis factor (TNF)α therapy with perianal fistulising Crohn's disease remains controversial due to the risk of severe relapse without any clear evidence. The aim of this study was to assess the rate and type of perianal and luminal relapses following anti-TNFα discontinuation. All patients treated with anti-TNFα for...

BackgroundBiologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are important options for managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Once patients achieve disease control, clinicians may consider dose reduction or withdrawal of the bDMARD. Results from published studies indicate that some patients will maintain remission; however, others will flare. We...
