Thick, and not thin, meconium-stained AF, was associated with an increased risk for perinatal complications during labor and delivery. Therefore, thick meconium-stained AF should be considered a marker for possible fetal compromise, and lead to careful evaluation of fetal well-being.

Blood lead was mildly elevated (31 microg/dl, where 25 microg/dl is the upper limit of the normal range) in a woman with lumbar bullet fragments who was evaluated for anemia in the 23rd week of pregnancy. She required Cesarean section at term for pre-eclampsia and fetal distress. The infant had multiple congenital abnormalities. Postpartum maternal...

Previous studies have established the clinical utility of umbilical cord NRBC counts. Our study demonstrated that it was possible to obtain NRBC counts from a fetal scalp capillary sample and that these counts correlated highly with umbilical cord NRBC counts. Future studies are needed to evaluate fetal scalp NRBC counts as a predictor of perinatal...

The rates of non-progressive labor stage I and II, meconium-stained amniotic fluid, macrosomia and Cesarean section were significantly higher with increasing gestational age. In order to decrease the rate of macrosomia, meconium-stained amniotic fluid and Cesarean section, we suggest that induction of labor should be considered before 42 weeks.

Resting tachycardia during routine antenatal visits may be more common than was previously recognized, and the majority of obese pregnant women are tachycardic when seated. When obese women are tachycardic in the seated position their heart rate should be reassessed after 5 min in the left lateral recumbent position.
