We prove a recent conjecture of Navarro and Tiep on the 2-rationality of characters of finite groups in relation with the structure of the commutator factor group of a Sylow 2-subgroup. On the way we complete the characterisation of characters of odd degree in quasi-simple groups of Lie type.

Let p be an odd prime number. In this paper, we characterize the nonabelian composition factors of a finite group with odd p-Sylow automizers, and then prove that the McKay conjecture, the Alperin weight conjecture, and the Alperin–McKay conjecture hold for such a group.

We prove that t-spread principal Borel ideals are sequentially Cohen–Macaulay and study their powers. We show that these ideals possess the strong persistence property and compute their limit depth.
