Intrinsic systolic function slightly decreases from the juvenile to the middle-aged period in normal male Wistar rats. Furthermore, correction of pressure-volume indexes for body weight is not an adequate surrogate for heart weight-correction in these animals.

We have concluded that low levels of dopamine in the urine of LS rats are because of an increase in the activity of renal monoamine oxidase and that angiotensin II mediates this increase through stimulation of AT1 receptors.

Part of the difficulty in determining the nature of these relationships has been the inconsistency in research conducted regarding age groups and controlling for past and present activity patterns. Further difficulties comparing across studies arise due to the variety of methods and parameters used to sample and analyse muscle tissue. Standardizing...

The reduction in specific force observed in MSV ski mice could be explained by a reduced fraction of contractile material and reduced transversal mechanical coupling. The ultrastructural abnormalities could be related to an increase in nuclear domains.

Beta2-receptors play a main functional role in mediating relaxation of porcine detrusor. Selective beta2- and beta3-agonists similarly relax the human detrusor. Effects were smaller compared with the pig.

These data suggest that melatonin can restore an attenuated neurogenic reactivity of the juvenile rat tail artery. The effect is more pronounced with further decrease in reactivity and might be due to a change in sensitivity of the post-junctional membrane to noradrenaline.
