Abstract

Zeros of the symmetric π N forward scattering amplitude are considered and the dispersion relation for the inverse amplitude is used for the study of the low-energy scattering parameters. The estimated positions of zeros and the corresponding residues enabled us to write down the simplest possible parametrisation form of the amplitude, which is very approximately valid for ω 2 ⪅ 1. The s-wave scattering length and the asymptotic limit of the total cross section are predicted to be a (+) = 0.045 (natural units) and σ T (∞) = 22.3 mb.
