# Weakly Coupled Fields: A More Active View

We present a more active formulation of the gauge-theoretic view of the weak and electromagnetic interactions of fundamental fermions, using as a guide the suppression, in nature, of certain matrix elements of strangeness-changing neutral currents between two single-hadron states and/or between a single-hadron state and the vacuum. The principal result of our formulation is that the observed rate for$$K_L\to \bar \mu \mu$$ allows us to predict, in the free-quark approximation, the value of (mKL−mKs)/mK within 10% by using the Quigg-Jackson bound.
