Abstract

The possibility of vacuum instability in massless λΦ 4 theory is discussed by using both functional techniques and canonical quantization. A new symmetric (〈 φ 〉 = 0) phase exists with energy below the perturbative vacuum for each value of λ. The excitations above the new ground state can be described in terms of Bogoliubov transformation.
