翻譯風格與溝通功能 : 毛姆《月亮與六便士》之兩種譯本比較 / Translation Styles and Communicative Functions : A Comparison between Two Translation Versions of Maugham's The Moon and Sixpence

Abstract

[[abstract]]文學翻譯以傳達風格為要。翻譯風格的決定因素在於譯者的語言技巧,以及譯者意圖的溝通效果。藉由翻譯風格的策略分析可窺知譯者之風格形成因素和溝通功能。以探索翻譯風格要素及其溝通功能的關係為旨,本研究就毛姆的作品《月亮與六便士》的前七章進行中文譯本比較,選取樣本為中國大陸的傅惟慈和台灣的劉黛萱兩種譯本,並藉以發掘他們各自的風格策略。為此之故,本研究針對下列兩個問題進行分析:(一)從辭彙選用來看,諸如:淺白的或是古典的字詞、有無使用修辭法、形式對等翻譯亦或動態對等翻譯三方面,兩譯者風格有何不同?各具何種功能?(二)從句構層面來看,諸如:which領導的關代子句、who領導的關代子句、以及句子的長度三方面,兩譯者風格有何不同?各具何種功能?本研究援用文學翻譯風格理論及Reiss的文本類型學理論作為分析的準繩。分析結果發現,在辭彙層面,傅的風格要素為簡易平實、口語化的字辭,並常採用修辭技巧,其產生的譯文風格較平易生動。反之,劉的譯本則偏好古典用語,形成的風格較精簡正式。在句構方面,傅易改變原句結構,而劉偏向遵循原語序。此外傅的平均句子長度較劉的為長,因此傅的敘述風格較劉平易。整體而言,傅的譯本句構變動幅度較大,同時其敘述較淺顯易懂,在溝通效果上符合Reiss的資訊文類。然而劉的精簡古典用語有助於原文美學的傳達,同時較忠於原文的敘述結構,符合Reiss的表述文類的要求。研究結果得知,不同的譯者偏好使用不同的策略來處理字辭及句構,故造成不同的翻譯風格,並達成不同的溝通功能。 / [[abstract]]Literarytranslationismainlyconcernedwiththestyle.Thedeterminativefactorsofthetranslationalstylelieinthetranslator’sskillofusingthetargetlanguageaswellasinthetranslator’sintendedcommunicativeeffects.Thetranslators’stylesandtheircommunicativefunctionscanbeidentifiedthroughthestrategicanalysisofthetranslationalstyle.Toexploretherelationshipbetweenatranslator’sstyleandthecommunicativefunctions,thepresentstudymadeacomparisonbetweentwoChinesetranslationalversionsofthefirstsevenchaptersofMaugham’sTheMoonandSixpencerespectivelybyFuinMainlandChinaandbyLiuinTaiwan,andtherebyidentifiedtheirrespectivestylisticstrategies.Tothisexploratoryend,thestudytriestoanswertwoquestions:(1)howdothetwotranslators’stylesaredifferentintermsoftheirlexicalselections,suchasplainorclassicalexpressions,theuseornouseofrhetoricaldevices,andformal-equivalenceordynamic-equivalencetranslationandwhatcommunicativefunctionsdotheyfulfill?(2)howdothetwotranslators’stylesaredifferentintermsoftheirsyntacticstructures,suchasthewhich-ledclauseandthewho-ledclause,andhowdotheirsyntacticstructuresaffecttheiraveragesentencelength,andwhatcommunicativefunctionsdotheyfulfill?ThepresentstudyusesstyletheoryofliterarytranslationandReiss’stexttypologytheoryasthetheoreticalframework.TheresultsoflexicalanalysisshowthatFustylisticcomponentsonthelexicallevelincludesimple,common,andcolloquialexpressions,andavarietyofrhetoricaldevices,whichleadtohisplainbutvividtranslationstyle.Onthecontrary,Liu’stranslationalstyleisconciseandformalduetoheruseofclassicalexpressions.Inthesyntacticaspect,itisfoundthatFutendstochangetheoriginalsyntaxwhileLiuoftenconformstotheoriginalwordsequence.Furthermore,Fu’saveragesentencelengthislongerthanLiu’s.AllthesefeaturesleadtoFu’splainernarrativestylethanLiu’s.Onthewhole,Fu’sscaleofsyntacticadaptationislarger,andhiswordingiseasiertounderstand,meetingthefunctionofReiss’sinformativetexttype.Incontrast,Liu’sreproductionoftheaestheticattributesoftheoriginaltextwithconciseandclassicalexpressions,andheradherencetotheoriginalwordsequencemakehertranslationmeettherequirementsofReiss’sexpressivetexttype.Theabovefindingsshowthateverytranslatorhashisorherfavoritestrategiesforrenderingwordsandsyntacticstructures,sotheyhavecreateddifferenttranslationstylestofulfilldifferentcommunicativefunctions.
