Abstract

Since confinement techniques appeared, the trend has been for engineers to search for enhanced weatherproofing to stop transfers out of or into the pollution source altogether. This might saddle future generations with the durability issue. Going against this trend, it may be interesting to turn natural attenuation mechanisms to advantage, by using geosynthetic liners that are tailored to need for example, to regulate the transfer rate so as to obtain conditions that are environmentally compatible for humans and the environment.
