Abstract

A novel hybrid open-framework manganese phosphate-oxalate templated with an organic amine, [CH3NH2CH3][Mn-2(OH2)(HPO4)(C2O4)(1.5)], has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The light pink compound crystallizes in a triclinic system of space group P (1) over bar (No. 2), with lattice parameters a = 8.3014(1) Angstrom, b = 9.740(2) Angstrom, c = 7.744(2) Angstrom, alpha = 102.32(2)degrees, beta = 93.38(2)degrees, gamma = 75.90(1)degrees, V = 572.7(2) Angstrom(3). In this structure, MnO6 octahedra, PO4 tetrahedra and C2O4 groups are linked to give rise to a three-dimensional open framework containing channels with 10-, 8- and 10-membered windows running along the a, b and c axis, respectively. The organic template diethylenetriamine lies disorderedly in the interspace of the channels along the c axis. The compound is an antiferromagnet with a TN = 9 K. (C) 2004 Elsevier SAS.
