As physician and writer Freud held an ambivalent attitude towards poets. Jens clarifies this by reference to Wilhelm Stekel's address and the subsequent discussion in Freud's Wednesday evening society, both concerned with the world première of Gerhart Hauptmann's stage play Griselda (1909).
