Abstract

The aim of this project is to evaluate our school’s paper demand and try to find a more sustainable alternative. To do so, we first calculated how much paper is spent annually in books and photocopies, how much does it cost (including production and transport) and how much electricity the printers spend. Secondly, we offered an alternative to paper. Tablets. We calculated how much it would cost to provide students and teachers with one, how much electricity they require to charge and the cost of production plus transport. Afterwards, we compared the pros and cons of both options. We concluded that tablets have an economic advantage, but both tablets and paper show a very similar frequency of environmental and social issues associated with its production and degradation.
