Abstract

•An enhanced methodology to evaluate satellite vulnerability to MMOD is described.•The methodology is applied to the LEO Earth observation satellite Sentinel-1.•Failures on internal components are evaluated using the Schäfer Ryan Lambert BLE.•Probability of satellite loss is evaluated using a Fault Tree Analysis approach.•Effects of design modifications to improve satellite protection are evaluated.
