Abstract

AIDS Action and a variety of national and local AIDS organizations are working to ensure the reauthorization of the Ryan White CARE Act. The measure was passed unanimously by the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee on March 29 and a full Senate vote is expected after the Spring recess. The House Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Health and Environment, headed by Rep. Michael Bilirakis (R-FL), will be considering a House version of the measure in May, 1995. Members of the House have reservations about core aspects of the CARE Act, and appear to be interested in attaching an HIV-antibody testing regulation to the Act. AIDS Action has advocated for the Act and feels that it is essential that AIDS advocates and communities unite in order to be successful before Congress.
