Abstract

ublished by the Edinburgh University Press, The Persian Presence in Victorian Poetry is a stimulating work written by Reza Taher-Kermani from Concordia University. The book addresses scholars specialising in nineteenth-century English literature and culture, but also those interested in comparative literature, translation studies and Iranian studies. This work charts the wide diversity of perceptions associated with Persia in Victorian literary culture. Referring to a large selection of poems embodying cultural, historical and literary material, the author examines the complex web of cross-cultural exchange that contributed to the formation of a mythical and fantastical image of Persia.
