Abstract

•Active oxidation in silicon carbide based concretes is studied.•Increasing concentrated solar flux applied on sample increases mass loss.•Silicon carbide based concrete has a mass loss lower than pure silicon carbide.•Linear increasing of surface and in-depth temperature is observed before smokes generation.
