Abstract

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is one of the human retroviruses that causes various complications in humans, including lymphoma. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), on the other hand, is a causative agent of tuberculosis (TB), a deadly infectious disease. According to the literature, patients infected with HTLV-1 are prone to TB due to lack of regulation in the immune system. In the present study, we discussed the association between previous HTLV-1 infection and TB susceptibility. We also reviewed the histopathological findings of respiratory involvement following HTLV-1 infection and the management of this infection. © 2021 The Author(s).
