In the present report, new results regarding the mathematical treatment and the numerical simulation of liquid micro flows are discussed. The results are applied to optimize two micromixer geometries. At first, the set of asymptotic boundary conditions is derived which significantly accelerates the numerical computation of the mixing flows. Parameter combinations for optimal mixing are found by means of a low-dimensional model, allowing for fast computation of time-dependent, oscillating channel flows. That way, the parameter space can be scanned efficiently. Full numerical simulations of the electrical excitation of a vortex street and of the electrically-excited flow in a folded meander channel are conducted for the optimal parameter combinations, with the asymptotic boundary conditions in place. The quantitative evaluation of the mixing quality is realized by means of several distinct methods based on tracking particles in the flow. It turns out that for the investigated geometries, efficient mixing is achieved.
