Abstract

The description of three ontogenèses of decapod Crustacea (Astacus, Galathea and Macropodia) shows the great variability of ail organs and cell types concerned with the résorption of the yolk and their mutual relations. The classification in two types of ontogenesis with or without vitellophags as well as in the one according to the number of générations of vitellophags are too narrow as a base for a real evolutionary comparison. Several types of cells — many of them not yet described — are concerned with the résorption of the yolk. Their number and function vary in the différent species depending on the development of the gut. Only a more detailed knowledge of a great number of ontogenèses will provide the necessary base for really founded ontogenetic comparisons.
