La sociedad civil en Cuba: barreras persistentes, emergencias recientes

We discuss the recent development of Cuban civil society, characterized by restrictions arising from the current post-totalitarian regime and the emergen-ce of new identities and demands. Data derived from two series of interviews with officials, activists and academics, made at two moments of the Cuban current political process: the governments of Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz Canel. The work aims to account for the specificity of the framework in which members of emerging civil society act, as well as the demands they make, similar to those of their counterparts in other places of the world, including authoritarian junctuaries in our region in recent times. / Se analiza el desarrollo reciente de la sociedad civil cubana, caracterizado por las restricciones derivadas del régimen postotalitario vigente y la emergencia de nuevas identidades y demandas. Se utilizan los datos derivados de dos series de entrevistas a funcionarios, activistas y académicos, elaboradas en dos momentos del actual proceso político cubano: durante los gobiernos de Raúl Castro y Miguel Díaz Canel.1 El trabajo apunta a describir la especificidad del marco en el que los miembros de la sociedad civil emergente actúan, así como de las demandas que enarbolan, semejantes a las de sus contrapartes en otros lugares del mundo, incluidas coyunturas autoritarias vividas en nuestra región en épocas recientes.
