Abstract

Although data collection for the original Kepler mission is complete, a repurposed Kepler has the potential to discover many hundreds of new, small exoplanets around low- mass stars located in or near the ecliptic plane. This repurposing of the Kepler spacecraft, dubbed K2, seeks to maximize photometric performance using its two operational reaction wheels by observing in the ecliptic plane where solar torques can be carefully balanced to minimize boresight roll.
