Abstract

Abstract : This research arises from the need to (re)think the treatment given to the black presence in the media in the current Cuban society and, more specifically, in the cinema. It seeks to identify how the construction of black invisibility in the Cuban cinema produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) was built, based on a review of the conceptual, epistemological and ideological approaches (ZURBANO, 2006) concerning to racism and its empirically observable manifestations (MARQUES, 1995) in Cuba. Taking this cinema produced by ICAIC "as a field, capable of anthropological observation and interpretation" (SATIKO, 2012, p. 31), it seeks to problematize the way black population is approached in the films analyzed.
