Abstract
This chapter, written by the four editors of this volume, Hugo Letiche, Ivo De Loo, Carolyn Cordery and Jean-Luc Moriceau, explains how the ‘ethnographies of accountability’ project came about, why it can be seen as an experiment, why ethnography and accountability are closely linked and why the book demanded to be written now. A classification of all the chapters in the book is provided as well.
