Abstract

Highlights•A comprehensive tethered spacecraft model and a computational tool are developed.•Nonlinear coupling between various dynamic modes is explicitly incorporated.•Equations of motion of complex tethered spacecraft are developed according to variational principle.•A geometric numerical integrator is developed for long-term numerical structural stability.•Several complex maneuvers of tethered spacecraft are illustrated and analyzed.
