Abstract

The book traces the history of the Flanders Festival as a major cultural event and institution in post-war Belgian history. It analyses its role in the dissemination of culture and its contribution to the establishment of an institutional and legal framework for the development of culture in the last decades. The focus lies on the interplay between cultural actors, such as artists and organizers, the media, business sponsoring and government policies.
