Abstract

Highlights ► We study the social structure of sympatric Australian snubfin and humpback dolphins. ► We found contrasting patterns of spatial and temporal association across taxa. ► Snubfin dolphin’s associations are highly cohesive and stable over time. ► Humpback dolphin’s associations are relatively flexible and highly fluid over time. ► Interspecific differences in sociality reflect adaptation to prey availability.
