Abstract

Abstract Bacterial species vary in their individual sensitivity to either oil of cloves or eugenol. B. pyocyaneus (Ps. aeruginosa) was markedly resistant. Variation in hydrogen-ion concentration had no appreciable effect on the activity of clove oil or eugenol. Incorporated in a paste with zinc oxide, eugenol, or oil of cloves still retains definite antibacterial properties.
