Abstract

Abstract A method for assaying chlorophenoxyisobutyrate in serum was developed based on GLC of the methyl ester. Two internal standards, similar in chemical structure to CPIB, are added; the compounds are extracted, converted to methyl esters and analyzed by GLC using an alkali flame ionization detector selectively sensitive to halogen. The serum levels of CPIB following a single oral therapeutic dose can be followed conveniently, suggesting the use of the procedure for monitoring adherence to therapy or for studying the metabolism of the drug.
