Abstract

Abstract A case of metastatic suppurative arthritis with subcutaneous emphysema caused by a mixed infection of Esch. coli and non-hemolytic streptococcus is presented. The presence of marked anemia and a sickling trait in a Negro patient is discussed as a further complication in diagnosis. The unsuccessful use of streptomycin in this patient is discussed in relation to the many factors which must be considered in using this drug.
