Abstract

Abstract Experimental runs have been carried out, on a pilot scale, to obtain operative data for designing a bubble reactor for the benzene alkylation to ethylbenzene in the liquid phase. A model is proposed to simulate the pilot reactor behaviour. A cell-type model with axial diffusion in the liquid phase is adopted to reduce computational effort required by the usual continuous dispersed plug-flow model. Good agreement was obtained between the experimental and calculated values of the main variables (temperatures, unreacted ethylene in the off-gas, concentration of aromatics in the outlet liquid).
