Abstract

JUN 2 6 1362 a DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, EDUCATIOY, AND WELFARE PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE Communicable Disease Center Atlanta 22, Georgia Refer to: June 21, 1962 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Stanford University Department of Genetics Palo Alto, California Dear Joshua: Thank you very much.for your prompt reply to my recent letter and the suggestions contained therein. I also had written Iino to thank him for some reprints and had told him of some of the queer things which were happening in the enteric group, hoping that he might be interested. Also I had heard about Joys and had wondered whether I should do something about him. However, there'are two difficulties here, First, it is difficult to employ a non-citizen and, second, I must have a person who can:take charge of the practical work of the laboratory as well as attack the problem in question. I shall probably end up by seeing if I can send one of our people for a short time either to Zinder or Barron. This may be the best solution of this problem if we are able to do anything about it. With kindest regards, I am Sincerely yours, =a . Philip R. Edwards, Ph. D. Chief, Enteric Bacteriology Unit Microbiology Section
