174 KiG 2011, 16From Professional Societes History of the Croatian Cartographic Society On the Occasion of the 10th Anniversary Ten years ago, on 10 October 2001, to be precise, the Croatian Cartographic Society (CCS) was founded as a result of a decision adopted at the founding meet- ing. The CCS is a professional associa- tion of cartographers and other persons with a particular interest in cartography and related fields. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, on 10 October 2011, a special annual assembly was held, attended by the Society's members, the Dean of the Faculty of Geodesy, representing the host body, the Director of the State Geodetic Administration, the Director of the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia, a representative of the Croatian Chamber of Authorised Geodetic Engineers, the President of the Croatian Geodetic Society, the Director of the Institute of Photogrammetry d.d., the President of the Board of Geofoto d.o.o. and other invited guests. The distin- guished guests addressed the assembly and congratulated the CCS on its tenth anniversary, wishing it further success in its work. On that occasion we would like to remind the reader about the beginnings and development of gathering profes- sionals in cartography in Croatia. Section for Cartography of the Union of Geodetic Engineers and Surveyors of Yugoslavia When writing about the predeces- sors of the contemporary Croatian Cartographic Society, it should be noted that on March 2, 1878, a group of 35 Croatian experts established the Club of Engineers and Architects (Klub inžinirah i arhitektah), which was the forerunner of the Croatian Engineering Union (Hrvatski inženjerski savez). The Croatian Engineering Union has existed ever since and currently includes 27 professional associations with about 10 000 engineers. One of its members is the Croatian Geodetic Society (Hrvatsko geodetsko društvo), of which the Section for Cartography was a part. There
