Abstract

Abstract A model of a wind driven ocean was considered to determine the vertical structure of the horizontal currents. The most restrictive assumptions were the absence of vertical motion and the constancy of the coefficient of exchange of momentum. The results of the model indicate a strong counter current under the intense western current. They also indicate that the current pattern in three dimensions is cellular.
