Abstract

Abstract The electronic paramagnetic resonance spectra of Gd 3+ in two different types of glasses, i.e., vitreous YAG and gallia-lime-silica glasses are reported. These glasses are elaborated in contactless conditions by using an aerodynamic levitation device coupled with a CW CO 2 power laser. Results show that the local order around the paramagnetic probe is very similar in both cases, and confirms once more that rare-earth ions tend to impose their environment when introduced into a glass.
