Abstract

The educational implications of slight degrees of hearing loss in children are discussed and a brief outline is given of some of the techniques which are currently available for screening the hearing of children. A simple test based on a speech discrimination task is described and it is believed that this test could find valuable application if used by Clinical Medical Officers, and other professional groups who deal with young children, and who may wish to make a quick evaluation of a child's hearing function prior to making a referral for more detailed testing.
