Abstract

Abstract A new general procedure for purification of proteins is evaluated. The procedure is based upon the interaction in free solution between the protein to be purified and a heterobifunctional ligand having an affinity for the molecule to be purified and also for the solid used as an affinity support. The binding constants needed in the different steps in order to obtain an efficient purification are evaluated on a theoretical basis, and some experimental data are provided to support the conclusions drawn. This new technique is efficient, simple and cost effective.
