Abstract

Abstract A new and simple procedure for the determination of hemoglobin iron is presented. The procedure involves separation of the iron from hemoglobin by 2.5% sodium hypochlorite solution and measurement of the absorbance of the Fe 2+-chelate formed with a new ligand, 7-bromo-1,3-dihydro-1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-5-(2-pyridyl)-2 H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one dihydrochloride. A comparison of the results obtained by the present procedure and the hemoglobincyanide method show excellent agreement.
