Abstract

Abstract Optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) measurements have been carried out on spinach ferredoxin both in the presence and absence of a 3 kilogauss magnetic field. The transitions observed in the absence of the magnetic field are not materially altered when the magnetic field is applied. However, additional rotations are induced; a positive rotatory dispersion in the case of the oxidized form of the spinach ferredoxin and a negative rotatory dispersion in the reduced form. In addition it was found that the ORD spectrum, particularly of the reduced form of the protein, was sensitive to the decomposition of the protein.
