Abstract

Abstract Until very recently, attention had not been paid to the differences in the physico-chemical behaviour of mineralogical and artificial graphite. In the present paper a study is made of the X-ray diffraction diagrams of a mineralogical graphite and an artificial graphite, and those of their products of cold oxidation, as well as the chemical composition of the series of products obtained in this oxidation, as a function of the number of hours of oxidizing attack. A study is also made, comparatively, of the theoretical interlaminar surface area of both series of samples, based on the data of the chemical composition and dimensions of the unit cell.
