Abstract

Summary Standardization of the various assays used for diagnosis of HCMV disease in different laboratories is a necessary step before antiviral response to specific therapy can be evaluated. In addition, in order to interpret the results obtained when different methods are used to quantify HCMV in clinical samples, studies performed with in-house nucleic acid amplification assays must be standardized by use of a common set of calibrators, standards, or panels. Table 1 provides a summary of the current commercially available molecular diagnostic test kits for HCMV.
