Abstract

Abstract A Monte Carlo numerical method has been employed to study the fluctuations inherent in the spatial and temporal components of nucleation. Numbers of nuclei from 10 to 400 were examined and it was found that the fluctuations were inversely proportional to the square root of the number of growth centres. Fluctuation in the total number of nucleic had standard deviations of about 23% for 10 nuclei and 3.5% for 400 nuclei. It is also shown as the number of growth centres decreases the number of transients required in any statistical analysis increases.
