Abstract

Abstract A relatively simple and accurate method is described for the assay of oestrone, oestradiol-17β and oestriol in low-titre urines. Enzyme hydrolysis of the specimen of urine is followed by Chromatographic purification of the oestrogens by gel filtration on Sephadex G-25 and extraction with ether in a continuous-extraction apparatus. The oestrogens are separated by chromatography of the residue of the ether extract on silica gel, the fraction being quantitatively determined by a photometric procedure using a modified Kober-Ittrich colour reaction.
