Phelps showed a positive correlation between inflation and the unemployment rate, known as the Philips curve. Phelps explained that inflation could be a phenomenon generated by a wage negotiation. In this sense, the effect of the anti-inflation policy of the 80s and 90s led to a much more favourable relationship between unemployment and inflation rate.
