Abstract

Abstract Delayed photon emission ( t > 30 μsec) has been observed following the prompt scintillation pulses produced by α-particles bombarding solid helium. It is thought to originate from excitons of the type proposed by Packard, Reif and Surko to account for a narrow emission line in solid neon.
