Abstract

Discusses the expansion of the pregnancy counselor's role in response to expanded options available to women today. Key aspects of an effective client-counselor association are identified and discussed. These include: limited duration of the client-counselor interaction; multiplicity of emotions; breadth of available choices; contradictory personal preferences; sensitivity to male perspectives; access to knowledge; decision making expertise. The importance of the counselor's nonjudgmental capacity is stressed.
