Abstract

Through a concept we call literary ethnography, we seek to demonstrate how the subjectwriter Guimarães Rosa, focused on anthropology, in particular, the ethnography, builds with materials such as his travel notes, letters, notes of your diary and poetic reports and, through them, showed how this construct contaminates the later narrators your literature. On construction of literary ethnography, we called the narrator as an ethnographer built through the travel, of the observation that values the synesthesia and of the empathy with the characters, the other. This empathy can be seen through the direct speech or free indirect speech, essential to the literary ethnography, because represent access to alterity. We demonstrate how notions of ethnography are present in the narratives of Ave, Palavra, "Sanga Puytã”, “Cipango", "Uns índios – sua fala", "Ao Pantanal”and “Pé-duro, chapéude-couro as well " "Entremeio: com o vaqueiro Mariano”, of Estas Estórias and "O recado do Morro" and "Uma estória de amor", of Corpo de Baile. We find the travel diary of a writer, A Boiada, such ethnographic vision that converses with other texts studied in the thesis
