Abstract

In this contribution we describe the techniques used to infer properties of the carriers of the Diffuse Interstellar Bands (DIBs) from the analysis of astronomical data with emphasis on the recent results obtained from so-called single cloud observations. All results seem consistent with large carbonaceous gas phase molecules like PAHs and fullerenes as carriers of the DIBs.
